PNC Financial Services Group of Pittsburgh, PA, Contradicts Its Own Domestic Partner Benefit
Policy by Donating $200,000 to the Boy Scouts of America's Greater Pittsburgh Council
PNC Financial Services Group, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has given a grant of $200,000 to the Boy Scouts
of America's Greater Pittsburgh Council. PNC Financial Services Group should be commended for acknowledging the
needs of its gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered employees by providing them domestic partner benefits. However,
PNC also gave these employees a mixed message when it donated $200,000 to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization
that discriminates against PNC's GLBT employees and their children. The Boy Scouts of America discriminates against
gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and atheist and nontheist youth and adults. So the BSA also discriminates
against PNC's atheist and nontheist employees and their children. How will Jim Rohr, chairman and chief executive
officer of PNC, explain this to his employees? Mr. Rohr is on the executive committee of the Greater Pittsburgh
Council and he is also a past chairman of that committee.
Scouting for All asks that our supporters to both call and send letters to Mr. Rohr, chairman and CEO, of PNC Financial
Services Group, to request that PNC withdraw its grant of $200,000 to the Boy Scouts of America and donate it instead
to one or more other youth oriented groups in the Pittsburgh community that do not discriminate against any children
or their parents. Other nondiscriminatory groups include 4-H, Boys and Girls
Club, Camp Fire USA, Girl Scouts USA, Gay Straight Alliance Clubs, which are usually in high schools and local
school districts. Let PNC Financial Services Group know that you will boycott PNC until it stops funding a
discriminatory organization, the Boy Scouts of America.
