Steven Cozza, Eagle Scout National Rally Letter To The Redwood Empire Council
October 9, 2002
Redwood Empire Council
2240 Professional Dr.
Santa Rosa, CA
Dear Executive Director,
Scouting for All, Petaluma High School Gay Straight Alliance and other supporters of human rights and justice for
all are holding our rally today to recognize gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth. Over the years the
Redwood Empire Council has supported the Boy Scouts of America's national office policy of discrimination towards
gay and non-theist youth and adults.
We are here today to ask the Redwood Empire Council to oppose the BSA national policy by writing an anti-discrimination
statement. GSAs, Gay Straight Alliances throughout the country are trying to help make our schools safe for all
youth. Right now the Boy Scouts of America is not a safe place for gay youth. An anti-discrimination statement
from the Redwood Empire Council would help make scouting in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties safe for scouts who now
have to hide that they are gay out of fear of being rejected and thrown out.
By writing an anti-discrimination statement, all youth will feel protected and that they belong. We ask the Redwood
Empire Council to find the courage to take such action if they truly care about all of our youth. If you fail to
take such action you have failed your own Scout Oath and Scout Law as well as the youth of Sonoma and Mendocino
Counties.
Sincerely,
Scott Cozza, Pres. Scouting for All
Steven Cozza, Eagle Scout, Petaluma HS GSA Co-Pres.
Katie O'Brien, Petaluma HS GSA Co-Pres.
