Action Alert: The Issue of State Government, In This Case NY, Providing The BSA, A Discriminatory Youth Organization, A Grant

April 27, 2005

"How can BSA be receiveing governmental grants to PAY for someone whose job is to function as a Scoutmaster? I was under the impression that given the "discrimination" issue, governmental funds could not be used for BSA programs where membership criteria apply. BSA weasels around this with Learning for LIfe, but this is a grant paying for BSA activities."

Scouting for All is asking our members and supporters to look into this issue and update Scott Cozza, Pres. of S4A on just how the state of NY can get away with funding a discriminatory organization. Contact Scott Cozza

Westchester-Putnam Scouting continues to grow and expand!

I am pleased to update you on Boy Scout membership expansion plans in Southern Westchester.

Earlier this week, Quentin Morgan, joined our staff as program specialist for the "Scouting in the Neighborhood" program in Yonkers. Morgan's employment is made possible by a New York legislative grant sponsored by Senator Nick Spano and by the on going fund-raising efforts of one of our Executive Board members- The Honorable Philip A. Amicone, Mayor, City of Yonkers.

The Westchester-Putnam Council, Boy Scouts of America is proudly partnering with the following organizations to deliver Scouting to over 100 new youth in Yonkers:

The Yonkers Salvation Army- Pack & Troop 100
The Nepperhan Community Center- Pack & Troop 342
Yonkers Children Excel Program- Pack 10 & Pack 9

Working with our new partners, Quentin Morgan will provide direct, weekly, Scouting support service to the youth and adult leaders in these new programs.

The Westchester-Putnam Council continues to grow and expand. I look forward to sharing with you new expansion partnerships in the weeks ahead.

Scouting For All is not an alternative scouting program.
We are an education and advocacy organization reaching out to gay and nontheist youth and adults in our effort to get the Boy Scouts of America to rescind its exlusionary policy.
