Action Alert: It is Not to Late Please Call United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta

July 17, 2005

The United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta will be deciding this Friday (July 15) whether to give nearly a million dollars to the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts, after an audit revealed widespread fraud of 'phantom units' to inflate the number of boys supposedly helped by UW funding.

By doing this for years, the Atlanta Area Council drew money away from other youth programs that applied for the same funding. Tell the United Way that granting the BSA funding after such a pattern of fraud only rewards dishonesty.

This decision will be made by the UW board:

FINANCE, AUDIT & PROPERTY CHAIR

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CHAIR-ELECT

IMMEDIATE PAST CHAIR/NOM. COMM

As the meeting is tomorrow, letters would not get there in time. Since the UW is run by volunteers, email to the UW address may not get to the recipient in time. Phone calls to the main UW number appear to be the best way for public feedback on the vote.
