Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor

Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.

Scouting for All is a 100% Volunteer 501-(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization. Every dollar donated goes toward our education and advocacy programs, and is tax deductible.

Utah Pride and Scouting for All

I am writing to let you know that Scouting for All will have a booth at the Utah Pride Festival on Sunday, June 4th. Our booth will be next to the library, not far from the main entrance to the event, just past the political stage. I don't know if a festival map will be available, but if so, our booth is E-09. We would love to have any volunteers who would like to join us, but also just wanted to invite you all to drop by our booth and get to know us. As you probably know, the Boy Scouts of America is very big in Utah, largely due to the influence of the LDS Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Mormons).

We believe in the Scouting movement wholeheartedly, but we also believe that the Boy Scouts of America should not be allowed to discriminate based on sexual orientation or religious affiliation (or lack thereof). You may also know that the Boy Scouts of America is the only western-world Scout organization that does discriminate based on sexual orientation or belief in god. Some nondiscriminatory Scout Associations include: The Girl Scouts of the United States, Scouts Canada, Scouts United Kingdom, Scouts Denmark, Scouts Sweden, Scouts Australia, Scouts New Zealand, and many others.

So, come by our booth at Utah Pride, sign Steven's Petition, and learn how you can help to end discrimination in the Boy Scouts of America.

The Utah Pride Festival will be held at the City Library and Washington Squares (near the new library) on Sunday, June 4th from 11:00 to 6:00. Please don't ask me for directions, as I'm from Denver, and I plan on getting at least partially lost getting there myself! More information can be found at http://www.utahpride.org/
