Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor
From Fox News:
Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.
Scouting for All is a 100% Volunteer 501-(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization. Every dollar donated goes toward our education and advocacy programs, and is tax deductible.
Action Alert: Contact the Mayor and City Council of Philadelphia. Let them know that they are doing the right thing by standing up against discriminatiory policy of the Boy Scouts of America.

Recently, the City of Philadelphia made an important and fundamental decision to end their lease with the Cradle of Liberty Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The council has been using a building on city property since 1928 for $1.00 a year. Recently, the city came to the decision that the council could stay on the property, but that they would be required to pay fair market value rent of about $200,000 a year.
The Supreme Court ruled in 2000 (Boy Scouts of America vs. James Dale) that the Boy Scouts of America was a private organization and, as such, had the right to chose its own membership standards. If the Boy Scouts of America is indeed a private organization, then it is high time for government at all levels to end support for this organization, as long as it continues to act in a discriminatory fashion. The Boy Scouts of America has claimed on numerous occasions that its prohibitions against gay and atheist youth and adults being members are religious in nature. As such, separation of church and state calls for every government entity at every level to end financial support for the Boy Scouts of America.
The religious right is calling on its supporters to condemn the City of Philadelphia:
Scouting for All asks its supporters to send a message to the City of Philadelphia. Let them know that we believe in diversity and acceptance. Let them know that they are right to deny public funds to any organization which denies membership to any of the city’s taxpayers based on race, sex, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender identity, religious affiliation (or lack thereof), spiritual or religious belief, disability, or any other arbitrary determination. Let them know that the Boy Scouts of America does not represent the values of America, or of Scouting Worldwide.
