Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor

Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.

Scouting for All is a 100% Volunteer 501-(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization. Every dollar donated goes toward our education and advocacy programs, and is tax deductible.

One Scout's Story

I joined cub scouts in first grade as a Tiger Cub and enjoy the scouting program to this day. This past summer I received my Eagle award at the age of 14 and am now 15. I commend the Boy Scouts of America on MOST of their program. I condemn the part that teaches young men to become hypocritical. Their point that "Morally Straight" means to be of heterosexual orientation is crap. From the Boy Scout Handbook page 46 I quote " To be a person of strong character... You should respect and defend the rights of all people..."

I love camping and the outdoors. Through my troop I was able to spend a week sailing in the Bahamas with some of my best friends! I was the Senior Patrol Leader of my troop and am now participating as a ceremonialist in the Order of the Arrow ordeal ceremony and serving as the first president of my newly formed venture crew. I hope this could someday serve as leverage in the future against BSA for allowing gay youth and adults in the organization.

Oh yah. I forgot the most important part, I am gay but I am scared to come out partially because my troop is chartered by a catholic church and it would be hard for them to stand behind me because of the church even if they personally would stand behind me on the basis of only their beliefs. I only wish i had the courage to stand up for what I know is right and what will make me happy.
