Philadelphia Ethical Society Takes A Stand Against The Bigotry Of The Boy Scouts of America

December 13, 2001
Roy L William
Chief Scout Executive
Boy Scoots of America
P. O. Box 152079
Irving, TX 75015-2079

Dear Mr. Williams.
The members and friends of the Philadelphia Ethical Society have signed this petition in protest of the intolerant, unAmerican stance the Boy Scouts of America has taken by prohibiting gays and atheists from becoming scouts or leaders. Your organization's position on this issue is in direct opposition to its avowed purpose of embodying the best of American values.

While the Boy Scouts of America has maintained that it is a private organization, its use of public funds and facilities indicates otherwise, and obligates it to be open to all groups of people. It is our sincere hope that the Boy Scouts of America will demonstrate true American spirit by amending its policy to include all responsible boys and adults regardless of sexual preference or point of view on the existence of a deity.

We look forward with anticipation to your becoming an inclusive organization that serves as an example of the American ideal of tolerance to the children you influence.

Arnold Fishman, President

Richard Kiniry, Leader

Scouting For All is not an alternative scouting program.
We are an education and advocacy organization reaching out to gay and nontheist youth and adults in our effort to get the Boy Scouts of America to rescind its exlusionary policy.
