Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor

Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.

Exclusion of Gays Violates Voyageur Council's Principles says a 25 Year Board Member Who Resigned from the Voyageurs Area Council Executive Board, Hibbing and Duluth MN

The Voyageur Area Council's Executive Board manual states on page 3, ``... a federal charter was granted to the Boy Scouts of America by Congress, and this charter charges the BSA with the responsibility of making the program available to every boy in America.'' The Boy Scouts of America's right to freedom of association is unquestioned.

Instead of spending precious Executive Board time discussing money, gains and losses, the board needs to spend its time examining the effects membership-exclusion policies have on youth.

"I encourage BSA board members to examine their roles" said Mike Sullivan, of Chisholm, who has been a 25-year area Boy Scout Council Executive Board member for Hibbing and Duluth and 1985-2000 program vice president for the Voyageurs Area Council.
