Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor

Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.

Scouting for All is a 100% Volunteer 501-(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization. Every dollar donated goes toward our education and advocacy programs, and is tax deductible.

Eagle Scout, Fire Chief Speaks Out Against the BSA's Policy of Discrimination

I am a Fire Chief who grew up in Scouting. I am an Eagle who has been involved in everything from Cub, Boy, and Explorer. I grew up in a troop with friends who later took over the troop for many years. They were gay and probably some of the best leaders around. As a fire chief, I have to be very careful about excluding any group from any activity. It is the normal thing to do. With Scouts excluding a part of modern society, I believe they are almost going against the constitution. I salute the group from Oak Park who will not recharter their Cubs. I help many scouts in completing their projects for Eagle. I no longer will associate myself with them. I WAS so proud to be an Eagle Scout. They can have it back. I hope that this issue is resolved and the scouting movement embrace anyone who wants to enjoy the benefits of the scout experience. It's ironic that tonight I am going to a memorial service for the scoutmaster who taught me so much. He had 50 years in scouting. His memorial service is in Oak Park, Illinois, and his family wanted a scouting flair to his remembrance. Some of the key persons leading
his memorial are those that Scouts want to exclude. We will honor a man who taught us discipline, and everything that the oath and laws represented.

It never mattered to us who was or was not excluded. I hope that things change.
