CUBS' PARENTS TO FIGHT GAY POLICY INSTEAD OF PULLING OUT OF SCOUTING, THEY DECIDE TO WORK FOR
CHANGE.

Summarized Article
Members and parents of Pack 302's Den 4 in Madison, WI. have decided to fight the Boy Scouts'
discrimination policy from within the organization, instead of leaving. They have discussed such actions
as marching in local AIDS walks and writing letters toScout leaders.
Four Lakes Scout Executive Chuck Dobbins defended the position of the Boy Scouts by stating, "I don't have
a problem with people doing some things to fight from within. But when that becomes more important than what the
program is about, they should find another program."
A total of seven Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops have had their charters rejected because their
sponsors contested the position of the organization. Both the members and parents of Den 4 do not want to be thrown
out. "The point is not to needle the Boy Scouts of America but to make positive change," said den leader
Dave Sample.
