New Jersey Law May Evict the BSA from the Use of Its Public Schools
When the Boy Scouts threatened to sue, a school district in New Jersey backed off of a policy proposal last
fall that would have required users of school facilities to sign a non-discrimination pledge that included sexual
orientation. But now the New Jersey School Boards Association is considering adding sexual orientation to its
state-wide guidance, and says if it passes, it will recommend that all of its members evict Scout troops from activities
on school premises because of BSA's national anti-gay policy. Said Fair Haven board President Annie Murray, "I
think it is very important that we teach our children that any type of discrimination is wrong. I also think we
shouldn't expend any public funds to support a group that doesn't follow the state anti-discrimination policy."
