As Members of the BSA One Way to Oppose the BSA's Policy of Discrimination is to Inform Your
Local Council and BSA National that You Will NO LONGER Contribute to Friends of Scouting, Instead Contribute to
Another Local youth Organization or to Scouting For All

Dear Ms. Frommo:
I am writing to explain to you why I am not contributing to Friends of Scouting this year.
I am an Eagle Scout. My oldest son joined cub scouts two years ago and his brother joined this year. I have
another son who will be old enough for Tiger scouts in three years. I have served as a den leader for the past
two years, and will serve next year as Assistant Cubmaster.
The past two years I have given the full suggested contribution to Friends of Scouting. I love Scouting. I
believe Scouting is a wonderful organization for the development of boys.
However, in the face of the continued discrimination of the Boy Scouts of America against gay youth and adults
I can no longer in good conscience continue to financially support the BSA. I do not want my sons to learn the
lesson that it is O.K. to discriminate against gays, or that no gay person can be "morally straight"
or "clean" enough to belong to the Boy Scouts. I do not believe that this is what the Boy Scouts is
all about.
As a family physician, I have seen the emotional and physical damage wrought by anti-gay hatred and fear. I
look forward to
the day that Scouting returns to its long standing tradition of inclusiveness and nonjudgmental ways.
Until the Silverado council takes the first step towards this day by publicly opposing the national organization's
policy of
discrimination against homosexuals, I will not pledge any money to Friends of Scouting. Instead, each year I will
send the full suggested contribution to Scouting For All, an organization devoted to changing the BSA policy of
discrimination against gays.
A copy of my donation to Scouting For All is enclosed.
Sincerely,
Signed
Chris Farnitano, MD,
