Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor

Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.

On May 9, the City of Davis (California) Human Relations Commission will ask their City Council to support 'Scouting For All' by voting to declare May 22 'Scouting For All Day'. Davis HRC member Bill Ritter said the city's declaration of Scouting for All Day would send a message that the town supports inclusion. It is not a move intended to pit the city against the Boy Scouts but to reiterate the city's policies against discrimination, he said.

Opponents of the request cited 'privacy' and first amendment concerns. On May 22, the Commission will show the film 'Scout's Honor' at the Varsity Theatre, 616 Second St, 7:30pm followed by a discussion with the founders of 'Scouting For All'.

Scouting For All is not an alternative scouting program.
