Wisconsin Scouts Council Asks Group to drop its Ban.
May 21, 2001
The Boy Scouts of America's council serving many Wisconsin Counties has asked its National Organization to allow
gays to be leaders and volunteers. They feel that the policy against gays is a problem and needs to be resolved.
The Scout Leaders are asking for a policy that adresses different sexual orientations without passing judgment
on them. Although this is a great step in the right direction, no amswer has come from the counsil about their
proposal.
While Wisconsin is pushing to change the BSA's policy a United Way chapter in North Carolina has agreed to
continue funding troops their. The Triangle United Way chapter in North Carolina voted to allow the Boy Scouts
and other agencies to exclude gays as employees and volunteers. They also said if a new policy took money away
from Scouts they would also move their funding.
