Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor

Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.

The Mid-Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America seems to have Mislead the United Way of Central Iowa to Secure Funding

Boys in the Des Moines area who say they are gay can be excluded from Boy Scout troops, even though Scout officials have agreed to a policy prohibiting discriminating based on sexual orientation. The policy was required recently by the United Way of Central Iowa in exchange for the charity's agreeing to provide the Scouts with about $124,000 a year. Similar nondiscrimination
agreements have been reached between United Way and other nonprofit organizations that the charity supports financially. Ely Brewer, the top executive in the Boy Scouts' Mid-Iowa Council, which covers 27 counties, said of the agreement with United Way, "If we would so choose, we would have the right to refuse their membership."

Scouting For All is not an alternative scouting program.
