Raiders partnership with Scouts blasted Gay pride groups criticize print ad for golf tournament

Members of East Bay Pride -- the organization that sponsors Oakland's gay pride event each August -- and the Oakland/East Bay chapter of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays upbraided the football team and the Scouts over an advertisement for the two groups' coming Invitational Golf Tournament, which the gay group found to be misleading.

The ad, which has run several times in the Oakland Tribune, says the tournament is "a great way to make sure no child misses the opportunities, motivation and fun that scouting offers."

"If that's true," said Pete King, president of East Bay Pride and a former Scout himself, "does that mean they're going to allow gay (youth) to participate? We're asking them to honor the Scout Law, tell the truth. This benefits most children, but not all."

Openly gay City Councilman Danny Wan -- who is supporting the gay group's effort -- said the issue goes beyond the Raiders. "All the other businesses in Oakland should be supportive of all kids," he said.

Scouting For All is not an alternative scouting program.
We are an education and advocacy organization reaching out to gay and nontheist youth and adults in our effort to get the Boy Scouts of America to rescind its exlusionary policy.
