A BSA Adult Leader Resigns from the Mt. Diablo Council After 25 Years of Service

Last December I send the following letter to the High Adventure Teams of the Golden Empire and Mt. Diablo Councils, resigning from the Basic Backpacking course, which I helped found and worked in for about 25 years.

Dear Steve, of the Mt. Diablo Council

As you know, this year the BSA finally succeeded in excluding all those who do not conform to its narrow and rigid interpretation of the Oath and Law. I believe that this action is contrary to the fundamental principles of American society. Therefore after much soul-searching I have reluctantly decided that I can no longer participate in any BSA activities, even in my own Basic Backpacking courses that mean so much to me. I hope that this decision does not cause you too much of a
problem in scheduling a replacement.
