of Its Discriminatory Policy Against Persons who Are Gay
Dear Friends, Scouters, Scouts, Venturers, and Parents -
I haven't looked forward to sending this message, but it's time. Though I made my decision many months ago, I
wanted to be
sure that the Jamboree folks were home and most of the high adventure groups had headed off for their treks, before
making this announcement.
On September 1, the Bowline and Jambo web sites, and all of the Scouting-related email lists hosted by Dynapolis,
down. Just before then, I will end my registration with the BSA, drawing a close to a 42 year association with

lost heart in the BSA, and can see no sure nor swift end to its misguided policy regarding homosexual youth and
leaders. Some of you know that this is a very personal issue for me, as I love and am extremely proud of my gay
son, who joined me for 10 of those 42 years in Scouting. I've spoken out on this issue here and in other forums,
and played a behind-the-scenes role in the early stages of the "Scouts Honor" video that is the topic
of much discussion among Scouters, and I am active in our local chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families, Friends of
Lesbians and Gays.)....
