State of Washington's Governor, Gary Locke, Eagle Scout Supports Scouting for All's Efforts
and Our National Rally 2001
State of Washington
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
August 16, 2001
Mr. Robert Raketty
Northwestern Regional Director
Scouting for All
Dear Mr. Raketty:
Thank you for inviting me to attend Scouting for All's national rally recognizing "Gay Scouts and All Gay
Youth Week." Unfortunately, I have a previous commitment and will not be able to attend.
I applaud your organization's efforts to make scouting accessible to all youth. As an Eagle Scout, I believe that
scouting deeply enriches the lives of our young people. It is a place where one enjoys camaraderie, develops leadership
skills, and learn the value of community service. Now one should be denied this valuable experience.
I am committed to the principle of equality for all our citizens, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation,
or any type of personal identity. As we continue to meet the challenges of the 21st century, we must work together
for a greater understanding among individuals from different backgrounds. We owe a debt of gratitude to organizations
such as yours that strive to foster an increased awareness and appreciation of the richness and depth of our diversity.
I thank and commend you for working to end
discrimination in our society.
Again, thanks for your thoughtful invitation.
