Letter: Cub Scout pack denounces discrimination
In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling that allows the Boy Scouts of America to discriminate against
gays and lesbians in leadership positions, the parents of Madison's Cub Scout Pack 302, chartered by the Franklin/Randall
PTO, thought it was important to take a public stand regarding the policy of the national organization. We therefore
asked the board of the PTO to formally adopt the following statement, which it did unanimously:
``We, Pack 302 of the Four Lakes Council of Wisconsin, do not believe that the Scout oath and the Scout
law can be interpreted to mean that Scouting should discriminate against anyone on the basis of sexual orientation.
We believe that sexual orientation is irrelevant to a person's ability and fitness to be a moral and ethical role
model as set forth in the
Scout oath and the Scout law. We accept and follow the Scout oath and the Scout law, and therefore do not discriminate
on any basis whatsoever.''
