Dear United Way of Ventura County,
I'm writing to convey my support for your decision not to fund the Boy Scouts of America. It is a courageous
decision to stand up to those who feel discrimination is ok.
I am an Eagle Scout myself, and I find the scouts position deplorable and a shameful example to youth of what
the future needs to be. Discrimination of this sort isn't ok, even if they have a lawful right to do it.
I have stopped my association with the United Way here in Utah because they continue to fund Scouting "for
inner-city youth" as they call it, but it should be called "for inner city straight male Christian youth."
Thank you again for following your anti-discrimination policy and for standing up for youth who already have
many difficulties facing them without institutionalized discrimination.
You are on the right side of this debate, and the future will prove it.
Shawn Johnson, Eagle Scout Utah
