UUChurch West Hartford, Connectcut Taks A Stand Against The discrimination of the BSA
May 12, 2003
Scott-
Update-
our Unitarian-Universalist Church in West Hartford, CT.-
worked closely with our Boy Scout troop to have them write and promote a nondiscrimination statement that is
consistent with our UU values. They now meet with parents and scouts the beginning of every year to reaffirm that
LGBT people(leaders, scouts) are respected and welcomed in the troop. Our church Board of Social Responsibility
can take much of the responsibility for pushing for action. We are actually encouraging the troop to have some cultural
diversity training/experience (our church could provide it) as part of a meeting. The local Three Rivers council
has not made a fuss over this, in fact other troops in the area are going through a similar process of nonndiscrimination
statements.
Keep up the good work.
