Dear Ms Johnson, Exec. Dir
I represent a 501c3 nonprofit organization called Scouting for All. This organization was founded by an Eagle Scout
and has thousands of members and supporters who are also Eagle Scouts, as well as current and past
members of the Boy Scouts of America. We believe in scouting, but can no longer support a once proud youth program
that now discriminates against gay and nontheist youth and adults. We are advocating for healing change within
the Boy Scouts of America, so all youth can be included.
We understand that the state of North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission recently awarded a $200,000. grant to
be disbursed in two years to your organization. Congratulations! It has also come to our attention that the executive
board of the Boys and Girls Club of Lenior County is considering using some of that grant money to sponsor / charter
a scout unit. Given that the Boys and Girls Club is a 501c3 organization, which is supposed to serve equally all
of the community and that you would be using state grant monies, we ask that you not sponsor a Boy Scouts of America
The Boy Scouts of America discriminates against many of the youth and adults, including parents you serve. Gay
and Atheist parents are not allowed in the BSA. We ask that you not support a youth program that discriminates.
No child or adult in the scout unit you'd sponsor would be protected, if just one person decided to report a gay
or atheist youth to your local BSA Scout council and or to the BSA National Headquarters in Irving, Texas, that
person would be kicked out!
The Boy Scouts of America is the only youth organization in America that discriminates against gay and atheist
youth. Scouting for All appeals to the Boys and Girls Club's moral responsibility to the community it serves, a
diverse community. We ask that you act on the side of social justice and not on the side of bigotry and discrimination.
We suggest that you sponsor youth organizations that don't discriminate such as 4H, Campfire USA, Girl Scouts USA,
or a local GSA Gay Straight Alliance Club.
Please let Scouting for All know what you decide.
