Letter to Chase Manhattan Bank: Boy Scouts of America Funding

CHASE just announced their decision to continue supporting the BSA. Here is my letter to them. Keep up the good work!
In your press release of 08/31/2000, you state:

"Chase has now completed its review and will continue to fund Scout programs. At the end of the day, we do not want to withdraw funding from those programs because doing so would be harmful to thousands of children who benefit significantly from them. We intend to continue working with the Scouts on this evolving issue."

What are you going to do for the thousands of gay children and youth who will be prohibited from participating in BSA programs due to the hateful and homophobic nature of the BSA? Will you begin funding the Mormom church next? How about the Arayan Nation? Both groups have programs that help people. Yet they, like the BSA, have chosen to define themselves by WHO THEY EXCLUDE.

I, unfortunately, an a new CHASE mortgageee. It wasn't my choice - you bought my loan. You cannot know what pain it will give me each month when I write my mortgage check to you. I am appalled that you would choose to support a private organization that would fight all the way to the Supreme Court for the legal right to exclude a portion of the population from their ranks. Remember, they are excluding some of YOUR customers and YOUR customers children!

The Boy Scouts of "part of America" have made a big mistake. CHASE has made a big mistake in choosing to fund their divisive, homophobic, hateful position.

I urge you to reconsider.
