Boyscouts is a wonderful program and the BSA must not alienate America's gay youth. As a former boy scout, it greatly
saddens me that me that such an organization would view gay kids as outcasts. I am looking for people to assist
me in organizing the rally here in the Phoenix-metro area.
Press Release: Protest to be held in Phoenix opposing BSA policy
In conjunction with Scouting for All, www.scoutingforall.org an organization that was started by 16-year old Eagle
Scout Steven Cozza, Phoenix organizers will be holding a protest during the national rally week on Monday August
20, 2001 at 4:00 P.M. in front of the Boy Scouts of America, Grand Canyon Council located at 2969 N. Greenfield
Road in Phoenix, Arizona. The purpose of such a national annual event is to get the Boy Scouts of America to rescind
its policy of discrimination against gay youth and adults as well as atheists. This will mark Scouting For All's
2nd National Annual Rally.
Brian Davis, Phoenix area organizer and a former Boy Scout, is asking all those who feel that the current BSA policy
hurts America's gay youth to join in the protest August 20, 2001. This year's national theme is National Recognition
of Gay Scouts and All Gay Youth Week. "Boy Scouts was such a wonderful part of my life when I was growing
up and every youth in America should have the same opportunity to join," says Brian Davis. The website for
the local rally is http://www.geocities.com/djbrianaz2001/

bring S4A's mission to Hawaii and exposing the BSA's policy of discrimination. At the rally we will have Steven
Cozza's Petition there to gather signatures.
The Civil Unions-Civil Rights Movement was designed to raise public awareness, educate the community about institutionalized
discrimination, and unify Hawaii's communities in the GLBT struggle for freedom, equality, and justice. Which fits
right in with the goal of S4A.
We are asking for all former/present scouts, their parents as well as community members who believe in S4A's mission
to join us in this rally.
Illinois
Chicago, Illinois
Chicago Anti-Bashing Network (Scouting For All Alliance for Human Rights member)
Location of Rally Site: 36 West Illinois Street
Intersection with Dearborn Site of founding of BSA, near plaque on building
Time/Date: Aug 25. 1 PM
contact: Andy Thayer - CABNstopthehate@aol.com telephone: 773.878.4781
Statement: The focus of the protest will be the Chicago United Way's (UW) refusal to defund the Scouts (recipients
of close to $425,000 last year). This past winter and spring, CABN had several phone conversations and a couple
of meetings with UW's top brass where we urged them to cease funding the BSA's hate. We made it clear that unless
they ceased funding, the United Way itself would become a target for protest. They have subsequently chosen to
fund the BSA, even going so far as to quote a Scouts leader in their release about the decision, where he boasted
about the continuing relationship.
UW officials are funneling $'s to the BSA through the BSA's "Learning Through Life" Program, which targets
disadvantaged inner city kids. This is nothing short of a transparently cynical attempt to pit Gays against African-Americans,
Latinos and others who face racist discrimination.
We told UW officials that there are plenty of worthy non-BSA programs which help inner city kids without simultaneously
giving a boost to bigotry. We told them that many of these kids will grow up to be Gay themselves, and associating
with the BSA will hardly be a "nurturing" environment for them. Even though Learning Though Life claims
to be open to all, regardless of sexual orientation, we pointed out that the UW should no more want to be associated
with such a subsidiary than it would want to be associated with an allegedly non-discriminatory subsidiary of a
white supremicist organization.
We are targeting the UW fall fund drive for protests and are asking people to STOP giving to the Chicago United
Way. Please also send letters to the United Way's Communications Director, James Kales (560 W. Lake, Chicago, IL
60661), informing him that you will not give to the Chicago United Way until it ceases funding the anti-Gay BSA,
and will urge others to do likewise.
The theme of this years Scouting For All Rally is: Recognition of Gay Scouts and All Gay Youth Week. The United
Way of Chicago should not be funding programs such as the Boy Scouts of America that discriminate against gay youth
or any segment of our society.

In the wake of last year's U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing the Boy Scouts of America to continue their policy
of discrimination, local councils have taken a step forward and petitioned the national organization to change
the anti-gay policy citing a loss in membership and public support. Some have gone so far as to adopt non-discrimination
policies of their own that include sexual orientation. Thousands of local school districts, dozens of United Way
Chapters, and even the American Medical Association have distanced themselves from the BSA because of the continuation
of this anti-gay policy.
We would like to see the Twin Rivers Council added to the growing list of local councils who are taking a stand
against discrimination. To encourage them to do so, we need to show that a large number of people in the Capital
Region support an inclusive Scouting program. All youth should have the opportunity to learn the virtues of Scouting
from any qualified adult volunteer, regardless of sexual orientation.
Join us on Monday, August 20th and let your voice be heard. For more information on the rally or the CDCIS,
please e-mail us at cdcis2000@aol.com or stop by our web site at www.inclusivescouting.org.
