Georgia
Savannah, Georgia
A Coalition of First City Network, Georgia Equality Project, Stonewall Democrats, Georgia Equality Project,
the Social Justice and Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church, and other fair-minded individuals
Location of Rally Site: In Front of Boy Scout Headquarters 11900, Abercorn Ext., Savannah
Date/Time: Oct 10 / 4:00PM - 6:00PM
contact: Robert Ludgate lobolud@aol.com telephone: (912) 964-5095
The purpose of this rally is 3 Objectives:
1. ENCOURAGE the BSA to end their discrimination against Gays, Atheists, Agnostics, Unitarian Universalists, and
others.
2. EDUCATE the public about facts such as, BSA is a part of World Scouting and Scouts in most other countries,
including Canada, do NOT practice discrimination in matters of sexual identity and do NOT engage in religious intolerance.
And that it is also widely surmised, that the founder of the Boy Scouts, Lord Baden Powell, may have been a homosexual.
3. PROTEST the Boy Scouts attempts to be PRIVATE only as far as it suits them -- and PUBLIC whenever it benefits
them.
For example:
They should not accept United Way Funding. Private clubs that practice discrimination have NO RIGHT to tax-exempt
> donations. (Especially considering the strong-arm tactics used in some businesses during United Way Fund Drives,
employees could feel compelled to donate to a group they believe discriminates.)
The local BSA chapter should be willing to pay rent at fair-market value. (Their building sits on Armstrong State
University (state) property.
YET - The BSA pays only $1 a year!
A private group that discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation, and practices religious intolerance, has
no right to benefit from state taxes. If leased at fair market value the property would be a source of funding
for the university and therefore, lower the burden on tax payers.
As a private club that discriminates the BSA should accept NO special accommodation or preferential access to ANY
public buildings, lands, parks or services. (i.e., - No free events or camping in public areas, state campgrounds
or national parks. No free transportation to Jamborees by military transport or any other government vehicle.)
The BSA should WILLINGLY and PUBLICLY cede their Congressional Charter, and release the President of the United
States from his duties as Honorary Chairman. Neither the Congress nor the President of the USA should be beholden
to a private club that discriminates on the basis of sexual identity, and engages in religious intolerance.
The BSA took their fight to be a Private Club all the way to the Supreme Court.
Shouldn't they do the honorable thing and start acting like one?

parents as well as community members who believe in S4A's mission.
While planning for next year's rally we will continue to contact the Aloha United Way and ask them to not fund
the Aloha Council until the BSA ends its policy of discrimination. We are asking everyone to help us with this

Boy Scouts' exclusion of gays and the United Way's continued funding in direct contradiction to their own alleged

when they continue to annually allocate over a quarter million dollars to the Greater Cleveland Boy Scouts.
The Cleveland ARA and other concerned citizens will be attending local city counsel and school board meetings to
ask that the BSA not be afforded any special rights including the free use of city property, troop sponsorship
by schools or city government groups such as police or fire depts, and that all recruitment by the BSA be banned
