Urgent Calls Needed To The Philadelphia Solicitor
September 23, 2003
Please take the time to pick up the phone to speak to, or leave a message for the Philadelphia City Solicitor
(contact information listed below) voicing your concern that BSA has been allowed FREE use of a Philadelphia city
building (located at 22nd and Winter Streets, Philadelphia, PA) since 1928.
Please tell City Solicitor, Nelson Diaz that a June 18, 2000, U. S. Supreme Court ruling gave BSA private organization recognition, allowing them to discriminate against the Atheist and gay communities. BSA is in violation
of Pennsylvania anti-discrimination laws. The relationship between the City and BSA should be immediately dissolved.
BSA must pay full rent or leave! Ask the City Solicitor to take decisive action this week.
Please also convey that taxpayer money should not be used to support a private organization. As a concerned
taxpayer you also do not want BSA to benefit from any sweetheart rental deals with the City of Philadelphia.
It was reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer that negotiations between the City and BSA will take place this week.
There is no negotiation room for bigotry!
And if you are feeling particularly feisty, please insist that BSA be held accountable for money owed to
the City since BSA officially announced that they are a private organization in June 2000.

Thanks in advance for your help in keeping the pressure on BSA. It has been a long hard battle to stop BSA
from discriminating against Atheists and gays. They may never give up their prejudice, but we can hold force BSA
to stop receiving benefits and gratuities that should only be given to organizations that service the ENTIRE community.
