Scouting for All Writes to the New Jersey State Police: Government Agencies Should NOT Be Supporting
Any Organization that Discriminates Against Any Segment of Our Society
Joseph R. Fuentes
Colonel State Police New Jersey
PO Box 7068
River Road
West Trenton, New Jersey 08628
April 6, 2005
Dear Colonel Fuentes,
I am writing you representing Scouting for All which is a 501C3 non-profit charitable organization. We are an educational
and advocacy outreach organization, reaching out to GLBT youth in our attempt to get the Boy
Scouts of America to rescind its policy of discrimination against gay and atheist youth and adults.
The New Jersey State Police recently sponsored a Boy Scouts of America Camporee. While I'm sure the Camporee made
a lot of kids happy and hopefully taught them some things about being good citizens did you know that gay and atheist
kids were not allowed to participate? And did you know that gay and atheist youth and adults who did participate
had to hide who they are out of fear of being kicked out of the Boy Scouts of America? You see if any youth or
adult, who are gay or atheist that participated were reported to the BSA national in Irving, Texas would have been
kicked out of scouting.
In the future we ask that the New Jersey State Police make sure when you sponsor a youth activity that you not
sponsor any youth program that discriminates against any segment of our society. I'm sure you have some of your
own State Police who are gay and or atheist. How do you think they felt knowing that their own State Police sponsored
a youth program that discriminated against them or possibly their own children?
The Boy Scouts of America is the only youth organization in America that is not run by a religious group that discriminates
against gay and atheist youth and adults. So the New Jersey State Police have many youth programs that they can
chose to sponsor including the Boys and Girls Club, 4H Club, Camp Fire USA, and Girls Scouts USA.
We thank the New Jersey State Police for its outreach to youth. And we encourage you to continue, but do so keeping
in mind the type of youth organization you may be sponsoring. The Boy Scouts of America's current
policy of discrimination just teaches scouts to discriminate and gives an extremely harmful and destructive message
to all youth.
Sincerely,
Scott Cozza, President
Scouting for All
