Dear BSA,
It has been my pleasure, privilege and honor to be the leader of my son's Den for the last year. Since I had not
been exposed to scouting as a child, I have been amazed with the growth it affords my son and the other boys in
the Den. I am looking forward to another year of service.
However, I was very distressed when the courts (California) decided to uphold the Scouts policy of barring gays
and agnostics in its organization. I personally cannot condone this decision and wish to voice my opposition to
the BSA's discriminatory policies. Discrimination of any kind is wrong, and that is the policy I believe I must
promote to my son and to the boys in my Den by writing this letter.
I wish to remain in Scouting for all the wonderful and wholesome things it represents, but I can only do so by
voicing my strong disapproval of the BSA's policies regarding membership of gays and agnostics.
Therefore, I hereby state that as it's leader, Den 4, Pack 8 in Petaluma will not discriminate or close our membership
to anyone, regardless of religious belief or sexual orientation.
Finally, I wish to encourage the Boy Scouts to change its policy in this regard.
Sincerely,
Signed
John F. Gorman
