Santa Rosa, California
SONOMA COUNTY BSA PROTEST - MON. AUG. 21ST

The YAAH Organization (Youth Activists Against Hate) and the Scouting for All Organization will be holding the National Day of Protest in Santa Rosa. This is to raise awareness about the injustices that gay youth are facing in the Boy Scouts of America policies. Our Congresswoman is expected to attend (*Lynn Woolsey). The youth of today need to feel welcome, and as there is no other organization that parallels the Boy Scouts of America, barring them is blocking them from a unique and otherwise positive experience. Please help us in spreading the word about our National Day of Protest.

The time and address for the event is:
11:00am to 3:00pm, August 21st, 2000
Santa Rosa Junior College
1501 Mendocino Avenue
Santa Rosa, California 95401-4395

We will be meeting there to set up and explain the event and guidelines. From there, we will march down Medocino Avenue, then down Steele Lane and right on Professional Drive where the Boy Scouts of America's regional headquarters is located. This office serves as the headquarters for all of Northern California.

Thank you, The YAAH Organization

Scouting For All is leading the protest at the Dallas Scout Council. We would have liked to have been able to protest in front of the BSA national office, but we have been informed that there is not any place to protest at the BSA national headquarters. So we will be protesting at Dallas, but we will be sending a contingent from Scouting For All the day of the protest to the BSA national headquarters in Irving. Steven Cozza, Eagle Scout and Scouting For All board members as will as fellow scouts will be leading that contingent in an attempt to meet with BSA officials at the national office.

Scouting For All is also going to hold a Healing and Reconciliation Ceremony on August 20, the day before the National Protest for all those who have been hurt by the Boy Scouts of America's discrimination against gay youth and adults and atheists. The Ceremony will be held at the Gay, Lesbian Community Center, 2710 Reagan, Dallas Texas. The Ceremony will begin at 3 PM and close at 4 PM. We welcome all.

RALLY ON BOY SCOUTS POLICY
Do you believe in Scouting for all?
Rally for non-discrimination for LGBT and other diverse youth, leaders and families.

This Monday, 8/21.
Gather at 6.30 pm for song circles, knot-tying demonstrations, and snacks.
Rally at 7pm

Location: Martin Luther King Jr. Park (2200 MLK Way, MLK Way & Walker, a few blocks north of McClellan)

Featured Speakers:

- Paul Beeman,a retired local Methodist pastor, long time scout leader, and national president of P-FLAG;

- Mike Aylesworth, a local 21 year-old Eagle Scout, who is openly gay. When he "came out" to local BSA advisers, the Chief Seattle Council told him not to renew his BSA membership;

- John Wartes, an Eagle Scout and father. He has sent his badge back to BSA to protest their iscrimination policies;

- Sarah Luthens, co-chair of the Seattle chapter of the AFL-CIO's constituency group for lesbian/ gay/ bisexual/ transgendered union members and allies. The King County Labor Council is on record as opposing the BSA's discriminatory policies; and

- State Representative Ed Murray.

The rally, part of a national day of action organized by Scouting for All (www.scoutingforall.org), responds to a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision which allows BSA to maintain a policy excluding all gay youth, leaders, and families from participating in the organization even in states with laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
