Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor

Activist groups, including Scouting for All, urge President Obama not to accept the honorary Presidency of the Boy Scouts of America until they stop discriminating.

Some Scout Councils of the BSA Question and Some Defy their Policy of Discrimination
Scout Councils across the United States are questioning the BSA's policy of discrimination. Some even before the
James Dale Supreme Court decision. Please go to the specific Scout Council listed in this section of our web page
to review documents of each Council questioning the BSA's policy.
The Piedmont Council of Piedmont, California, in October of this year, 2000 sent a letter to the National BSA headquarters
stating as a Scout Council they would not follow the BSA's policy of discrimination against gay youth, adults and

The Baden Powell Council of New York in 1992 submitted a letter to the National BSA in Irving, Texas. This letter
contained a Resolution asking the BSA to rescind its policy of discrimination.
The Indianhead Council of Saint Paul Minnesota in 1999 called upon the Boy Scouts of America to establish a commission
to study the BSA membership requirements and the role of the chartered organization in selecting leaders. A chartered
organization is a church, service club or other association that is chartered to operate one or more Scout units.
The resolution of the Indianhead Council was referred to the BSA's Relationship Commission.
The Narraggansett Council of Providence, Rhode Island in the summer of 1999 endorsed the Indianhead Council Resolution.
