Change Is Coming / Girls In Scouting

August 31, 2002

There is also the positive side of change coming to the Scouts. Since 1999 BSA has promoted its coed high school to college age program, Venturing.

In 1999 we established Crew 24, a coed group dedicated to high adventure. We have attended SeaBase, Florida twice, Philmont Scout Ranch and our local MDSC camp, Wolfeboro. Our membership is open to all and we have active gay members. This summer our council camp, Wolfeboro, had women and girls on its staff along with the men and boys. Girls
attended the camp as part of our Venture crew and participated fully in the program. Not everyone was thrilled to see us there, but overall the response from the other Scouts was warm and welcoming. Females have served on the staff at all the National High Adventure Camps for years as well as local camps. Change is coming, at least in this one way.

Ellen Georgi, Crew Advisor

Scouting For All is not an alternative scouting program.
We are an education and advocacy organization reaching out to gay and nontheist youth and adults in our effort to get the Boy Scouts of America to rescind its exlusionary policy.
