Dear fellow Scouts and Scouters,
We allowed our son to join Scouts after careful consideration culminating in our firm intent to change BSA's discriminatory policy against gays from the inside. My husband is assistant Scoutmaster and I am Chaplain of our troop; our son is a first-class Scout and our daughter is a Brownie Girl Scout ( I am also a GS troop leader and service unit director). Thank you for your efforts to make Scouting as truly "moral" as it claims to be. Please put me on your mailing list and let me know what I can do to help. Many thanks!

I applaud Scouting for All and all their supports. If the BSA wants to discriminate let them do it on their own dime. They may teach valuable skills and lessons to America's youth but they are also teaching ignorancy and intolerance. It should be stopped.

I am an eagle scout and am constantly afraid of coming out to the wrong person. Scouting has been such an important part of my life, and I would hate to lose it for reasons entirely beyond my control. I hope with the recent repeal of DADT, the BSA will follow suit.

I do not see any scouting activities on your calendar. Why don't you spend your energy on promoting your organization, teaching love for the environment, and teaching camping and ourtdoor skills instead of protesting BSA.

I was a part of BSA for 54 years and can testify that it was not always like this. There is no other program to match BSA. As powerful as they are they have begun teaching hate. First they gained the strength and then stated teaching hate. They must be stopped. Make no mistake on this discrimination is hate, pure and simple.

Hi! I just found your site through a search engine and boy, am I glad I did.
I currently serve as the advancement chair for my son's cubscout unit. This morning I read an article about the BSA having the right to ban atheist's and I was shocked! My son has been a cubscout for three years and when he joined we were reassured that BSA accepts all faiths. I assumed atheist's were included. While I wouldn't necessarily call myself an atheist, we don't attend a church, but we have our own faith and values.
Now, my question is this, do I tell someone in our unit about this situation and risk being kicked out (my son is really starting to enjoy scouting) or do we keep our mouths shut and worry about it later when he is in boy scouts?
I'm really confused and am equally sick about this. I think it's totally wrong and can't believe we are still dealing with these kind of issues 100 years later.
I am so happy to have found you and will support you any way I can. Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you. Have a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year too!

Thank you for sharing. The bottom line is the Scout Law says a Scout is Trustworthy. Yes you can hide the facts and remain. They have a wonderful program for some boys today. They would call it a lie by omission. That does present a problem. You would need to instruct your son about the problem and how to handle it. What will you tell him to say when he is asked? This is a problem. Even if the pack turns their back on the facts the new troop might not. It does get a bit sticky. That is why we are fighting for change.

The fact that there is a counter movement to the Boy Scouts of America is shocking and saddening. I am a proud Eagle Scout, and a proud supporter of homosexuals. However, the fact that people would rather disband Boy Scouting in America is a sad reality. The Boy Scouts are ready to happily celebrate their 100th anniversary in America. Yet, rather than urging America to celebrate their success as a vital citizenry and the BSA's contributions to society, Scouting for All seeks to discredit this and ruin Scouting's future. There is a reason Eagle Scouts advance one full rank in the military upon enlistment. There is a reason that the adult Eagle Scout knot is the only official Scout insignia that can adorn a military uniform. Your organization offers nothing but a half-hearted alternative.

We are not an alternative organization. We are an advocacy organization. We simply want the BSA to come to the table and stop teaching children to hate. They do so by example. Remember Matthew Shepard was killed by an eagle scout. What they are doing today is against everything the Boy Scout Oath and law are about.
They need to lighten up and start treating everyone equal.

Philip, I must tell you that what you are saying totally incorrect. First we are not an alternative scouting group. We are mostly Eagle scouts. We do not want to see BSA go away. We want them to embark on the path they were on years before they went astray. Today they teach hate by example. Today they discriminate. Today they will not help the disabled participate. This is not the BSA that I knew for 54 years of my scouting experience. This is someone I do not even recognize anymore. Shame on them for how they treat children today. Why would it be ok for them to turn away a 7 year old because he has 2 moms? Why is it ok to refuse membership to a boy who's parents say they are non-theist?

I started out in the Cubs as worked my way up from there really believing in the Scout movement until one day, when a Scoutmaster of a maritime unit, three redneck officials from BSA Irvine, Texas publically and loudly "fired" me from scouting because they had "heard" that I was gay. They were three of the most disgusting bullying, overweight, rummy, hill billies you could imagine. When Scouting for All became organized I became a dedicated supporter. The BSA, and its Texas dictatorship, no longer represents that ideals of American scouting and President Obama should disassociate himself from the honorary designation and congress should rescind the charter. I subsequently became a judge and kept in mind the bigoted behavior of those three poor excuses for scouting representation when rendering decisions. May Scouting for All prevail in its quest for honesty and inclusiveness.

I just watched Penn & Teller's show, - #@$&% -, regarding the boy scouts. I never knew there was an alternative organization. I am a writer in Los Angeles and I would like to incorporate some interviews from your group in an upcoming article on hate in the U.S.A. I am gay and barely squeeked by the Boy Scouts when I was a kid, I was outed just after I stopped. I look forward to future communications.

I have not seen the Penn and Teller show on the BSA.
What is the alternative scouting organization mentioned?
I thought the BSA successfully sued to prevent Youthscouting from forming, citing the Congressional Charter.
